The Event

The Indiana Wine Fair

The Indiana Wine Fair® is one of Indiana's oldest and largest public wine events.  For each of the past sixteen years, Indiana's vintners have descended upon the little town of Story, Indiana to dole out one-ounce pours of their finest rieslings, malbecs and cabernets to an appreciative audience. Admission into the festival area will be limited to persons at least 21 years of age (sorry, no babies!). Tickets will be pre-sale ONLY if you intend to drink ($10 if you are a designated driver). Please click to buy tickets online for current ticket prices and promotions. Please note, you will not be able to purchase tickets at the gate the day of the event this year. All attendees will receive a Story Inn keepsake wine glass and tote bag.

The Story Inn

The Story Inn® and the town of Story, Indiana, are one and the same.  The town was founded with the grant of a land patent from President Millard Fillmore to Dr. George Story in 1851.  In its early days, Story was a logging community, and as the old growth forest began to disappear, the residents took up farming.  Today, the town looks much as it did in the late 19th century.  The old General Store building, which sits at the core of this little town, is now one of Indiana's most celebrated restaurants.  The cottages clustered about town have been converted into overnight accommodations, as well as facilities for weddings and special events.  The Story Inn® is one of Indiana's true historic treasures.

Wine Judging Thursday, May 10th.

On Thursday, May 10th, our distinguished judges will convene in the Old Mill building to conduct a blind tasting of upwards of 200 wines.  It will be their delicious task to select the Gold, Silver and Bronze medalists in each of the following eight categories: "Dry Red", "Dry White", "Sweet Red", "Sweet White", "Dessert", "Sparkling" , "Blush" and "Non-Grape/Non-Traditional".  We'll be announcing the medalists that evening, on this website and at  The wine which obtains the highest cumulative point total (regardless of category) will receive an additional award, the "Best of Show", and will have bragging rights to being the best wine produced in the Hoosier state. We'll be awarding another Gold, regardless of category, to the highest point wine if the fruit is Indiana grown. Thus, theoretically, it is possible for one wine to clinch three gold medals.

Other Wine Events

For sixteen years, the Story Inn® has been hosting wine dinners.  These events typically feature a grape, winery, region or special event (i.e., the release of Beaujolais Nouveau), and is a means by which we build our venerable wine list. Each wine is expertly paired with food, much of it locally sourced or harvested.  Seating at these events is typically limited to 30 persons, by reservation only.  Visit for more details and to book your table or room.
